Description
🏰 【 Winery Legend: Château Gazin 】
As a historical estate in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, Château Gazin boasts a profound legacy. The estate was built on the ruins of the Hôpital de Pomeyrols, a 12th-century institution established by the Knights of St. John to receive pilgrims on the Santiago de Compostela route. Notably, it is a direct neighbor to the legendary Château Pétrus. Since 1917, the estate has been managed by the Bailliencourt dit Courcol family, one of France's oldest aristocratic lineages, now in its fifth generation under Nicolas de Bailliencourt. Through radical overhauls in both the vineyard and winemaking processes, and possessing a rare 26-hectare contiguous plot on the plateau, Château Gazin has firmly secured its position as a highly sought-after classic red wine from the Right Bank.
🌿 【 Terroir & Winemaking 】
Château Gazin benefits from the exceptional terroir of the Pomerol plateau. The topsoil consists of Günzian gravel, while the subsoil is composed of blue and green clays rich in iron oxides (smectites). This unique geological structure ensures a steady water supply and imparts deep concentration and distinct mineral notes to the wine. The 2019 vintage is a blend of 88.5% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4.5% Cabernet Franc. Upholding traditional methods, the grapes are hand-harvested and subjected to rigorous multi-stage sorting. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (approximately 50% new), achieving a seamless integration of refined oak and pure fruit expression.
📅 【 Vintage & Critic Scores 】
The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux is widely celebrated for its excellence. A mild winter led to early bud break, while favorable spring weather avoided frost damage. The hot and dry summer accelerated the ripening cycle, resulting in perfectly ripe fruit with outstanding phenolic maturity, brilliant acidity, and a remarkable sense of freshness.
