Description
🏰 【 Winery Legend: Domaine Georges & Christophe Roumier 】

Founded in 1924, Domaine Georges & Christophe Roumier is undisputedly one of the most revered and cult-status estates in Burgundy. Founder Georges Roumier acquired several top-tier vineyards through marriage and visionary purchases. Current proprietor Christophe Roumier, who took the helm in 1982, has propelled the Domaine to unprecedented heights. His winemaking philosophy deeply respects the terroir, pursuing elegance, purity, and profound aging potential. The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras is one of the estate's most iconic red wines. Roumier owns 1.75 hectares here, accounting for nearly half of the entire climat. For many hardcore Burgundy collectors, Roumier's Les Cras possesses the structure and longevity to easily challenge, or even surpass, many Grand Crus.

🌿 【 Terroir & Winemaking 】

Les Cras is situated on the northern side of the Chambolle-Musigny village, featuring a slight slope. The core of its Terroir lies in its highly impoverished white marl and hard Comblanchien limestone with extremely shallow topsoil. This geology imparts a striking mineral tension and chalky tannic texture to the Pinot Noir. In terms of Viticulture, Christophe employs Lutte Raisonnée (reasoned struggle), integrating organic and biodynamic principles. For the Élevage of the 2014 vintage, based on stem ripeness, the Domaine retained about 30% whole-cluster fermentation. Following fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wine was matured in French oak barrels with very restrained use of new oak (typically 20% to 30%), ensuring the pure expression of the limestone terroir is not masked by wood aromas.

📅 【 Vintage Analysis & Scores 】

2014 is a highly classical, precise, and transparent vintage for red Burgundy. A promising spring was followed by early summer hailstorms that reduced yields in parts of the Côte de Nuits. Fortunately, impeccable weather from mid-August through September salvaged the growing season. The 2014 Pinot Noirs are not defined by the massive scale or sweet, jammy fruit of 2015; rather, they are celebrated for their pure red berries, bright, precise acidity, and exceptional terroir transparency. It is a vintage beloved by Burgundy traditionalists, showcasing ultimate elegance and a linear skeletal frame typical of cooler years.

🏅 Score: Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 92-94/100

"The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras includes 30% whole cluster. It has a crisp, very pure, chalky bouquet that is beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannin, a keen line of acidity and a precise, mineral-driven finish."

🍷 【 Tasting Notes 】

👃 Nose: Displays ultimate purity. It opens with crisp notes of red cherries, wild strawberries, and cranberries, quickly revealing the signature Les Cras aromas of crushed limestone and chalky minerality, accompanied by delicate violet florals and faint spices.
👅 Palate: Medium-bodied with an incredibly tightly-knit and energetic structure. The bright acidity of the 2014 vintage perfectly intertwines with the underlying limestone minerality. Tannins are firm yet silky fine. The fruit is restrained and precise, showing absolutely no heaviness or over-extraction.
✨ Finish: Exceptionally long and penetrating. The sweet-tart red fruit and profound saline minerality linger endlessly on the palate, showcasing breathtaking purity.

🍽️ 【 Serving Guide 】

🌡️ Temperature: 14-16°C
⌛ Decanting: Bottle breathe for 1.5 to 2 hours. Roumier's Les Cras is notoriously tightly wound in its youth and requires time for oxygen to slowly awaken its complex aromatics. Vigorous decanting is not recommended.
⏳ Drinking Window: Entering its early drinking window now, but its absolute peak is expected between 2026 and 2038, showcasing immense cellaring potential.
🍴 Food Pairing: Flawlessly pairs with roasted quail, pan-seared duck breast with a red berry reduction, or delicately seasoned wild mushroom truffle dishes.

💬 【 Manager's Pick 】

⚡ Attention Burgundy fanatics! I don't need to tell you how incredibly rare and sought-after Roumier's wines are. This Les Cras is undeniably one of Christophe Roumier's masterpieces. The striking minerality driven by its limestone terroir is simply unbeatable, easily outperforming many Grand Crus. 2014 is a beautiful, classic vintage with exceptional acidity and transparency. If you love the ethereal, crystalline purity of red fruit and crushed rocks that only top-tier Burgundy can offer, this '14 Les Cras is entering a brilliant drinking window now, though it will cellar magnificently for years to come. Roumier bottles disappear as soon as they arrive—grab this ultimate collector's gem without hesitation! ⚡
