Description
Marchesi Antinori is one of Italy's most influential wine families, with a history of more than 600 years in Tuscany since its founding in 1385. As a pioneer of the Super Tuscan movement, the Antinori family is known for its innovative spirit, breaking the rules of traditional production areas to produce world-class wines.
Its flagship wine Solaia (Toscana IGT) was born in 1978 and is produced from a single vineyard in the Chianti Classico region. This Bordeaux-style blend is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, with a small amount of Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. It is aged in French oak barrels and shows deep blackberry, spice and smoke flavors, delicate tannins, and a grand and elegant structure. Solaia is known as one of Italy's top wines, has received full marks from Wine Spectator many times, and has become a treasure that collectors are competing for. Through this wine, Antinori Winery perfectly interprets the combination of Tuscan terroir and modern winemaking techniques.
The 2014 Solaia Toscana IGT has received high praise from international wine critics and is considered one of the outstanding representatives of Tuscany in this vintage. The following is a summary of specific scores and comments:
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 95/100
(Antonio Galloni's review)
"The 2014 Solaia shows amazing elegance and freshness. Despite the climate challenges of this year, the winery has achieved a layered wine full of red cherry, black currant, violet and cedar flavors through strict selection of grapes. The tannins are silky, the acidity is fresh, and the aging potential is excellent."
James Suckling: 96/100
"This wine is unexpectedly excellent in 2014, with both power and finesse, with complex flavors of blackberry, tobacco and graphite, a tight structure but not losing its agility, and a long finish."
Wine Spectator: 94/100
"Despite the rainy and cool 2014 in Tuscany, Solaia still maintains its signature depth, balancing ripe fruit with spice and minerality, and requires patience to bloom."
Vintage characteristics
The 2014 Tuscan spring was wet and the summer was cool, resulting in a reduction in overall production, but Antinori, through strict selection and extended aging (18 months in new French oak barrels), gave the wine unexpected concentration and freshness, becoming the highlight of the year.
