Description
🏰 【 Winery Legend: Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair 】
The Liger-Belair family boasts over 250 years of illustrious winemaking history in Burgundy. In 2001, Thibault Liger-Belair officially took over the family vines, launching his eponymous domaine with an uncompromising commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture. As a leading voice in the region, Thibault has spearheaded the rigorous campaign to elevate the legendary "Les Saint-Georges" vineyard to Grand Cru status. His terroir-driven approach and meticulous farming yield wines of profound depth and character, solidifying the estate as one of the most respected names in the Côte de Nuits today.
🌿 【 Terroir & Winemaking 】
The Les Saint-Georges Premier Cru (Lieux-dits) is the historical heart of Nuits-Saint-Georges, dictating the very name of the village. The terroir features deep, pebbly brown limestone soils that produce wines of exceptional structure and serious longevity. Thibault's parcel contains venerable old vines, with significant plantings dating back to 1944. Yields are kept strictly low. In the cellar, intervention is minimal; the 2020 vintage utilized 45% whole clusters to retain a critical backbone of freshness and white pepper spice. Élevage took place over 22 months in oak barrels, with approximately 50% new oak, ensuring a seamless integration of wood and pure Pinot Noir fruit.
📅 【 Vintage Analysis & Critic Scores 】
The 2020 vintage in Burgundy was marked by warm, dry conditions, resulting in grapes with thick skins and remarkable concentration. However, astute vignerons like Thibault managed to preserve brilliant acidity and energetic tension. The resulting wines are robust, highly structured, and designed for decades of cellaring, demanding patience from serious collectors but promising extraordinary rewards.
🏅 Score: Jasper Morris (Inside Burgundy) 95-97 Points
"Deep purple more than black, the nose is classier and more together than the Clos Vougeot. Actually this is brilliant as soon as the nose starts to open. Wow! This has all the classic depth of Les St-Georges but it seems to have a Vosne side heady joy as well. A huge glorious mouthful, a little white pepper tingle (45% whole bunches), but a royal quality of deep dark raspberry fruit, sensational finish. Easily the best I have ever tasted here."
